problems the same as us so holistic therapy can be beneficial. However,
before using essential oils on animals, we advise that you consult a
qualified holistic veterinary surgeon.
In the coming weeks, we will be providing you with some recipes for animal

Your Pet
Dogs and Horses
Their reaction to essential oils is very much like that of
humans. Essential oils can be used in very much the same fashion.
Cats
The liver of the cat processes chemicals differently to humans, dogs, and
horses, so be more cautious. I am sure you are aware that dogs are more
prone to eat any old rubbish, whereas cats are much more fussy. This
behaviour is obviously a result of their physiological difference.
We recommend you consult the guides in the links at the bottom of this page
under the heading Useful Links before
using essential oils on your pets, or consulting your nearest qualified
holistic veterinary surgeon.
Top reasons for using essential oils to aid our furry friends
Not toxic to the body
Just like the human body, toxicity is a huge problem for our animals.
Easy to use

humans.
Dogs can inhale the oil directly from the bottle or from your hand, or
placed directly on to their body or paw.
Horses are not that dissimilar to humans and dogs

Application
Essential oils must always be diluted with a carrier oil.
Dilution guideline 1 tablespoon of carrier mixed with maximum 6 drops of
oil.
Topical application has the greatest benefit as the oils and carrier
are applied directly to the affected area. The oils penetrate the skin and
are quickly absorbed by tiny capillilaries which carry them to the
bloodstream. Topical application can be done via massage or adding to a
shampoo or ointment.
Diffuser and inhalation application
Place oils in an oil burner and leave for 20 – 30 minutes per day in
order for your dog to inhale and absorb the oils.
Safety Concerns?
Use smaller amounts on smaller dogs.
Be more cautious with cats.
Never apply near eyes or directly on nose or in the anal or genital areas.
Never use on epiletic dogs or dogs who are seizure-prone.
Always fully read about a particular oil and take care in selection. Some
oils such as Rosemary may trigger seizures (in humans to).
Simply follow human guidelines as dog aromatherapy is similar to humans so
